Local Pubs Week is a campaign by CAMRA to raise the profile of community pubs and to encourage more people to use them more of the time. We have joined up with wearebarnsley.com who asked us to get involved and support their Pubs Week Event.
Unlike some other campaigns we have done in the past, the dates for Local Pubs Week are chosen by each branch, or in our case requested by wearebarnsley.com and this first Local Pubs Week will run for 7 days from 1st to 7th November (Monday to Sunday).
What sort of events will there be?
It will be up to the publicans to decide, but hopefully there will be a wide variety, from games nights, live music, quiz and bonfire evenings. We want to attract people who don't normally get down to the pub, just as well as the drinkers who support them all year round.
Want to get involved?
We'd love to hear from anyone who has an idea for their local pub, and Barnsley CAMRA can supply beer mats and posters to publicans who are running an event. We'll be letting the local newspapers know whats going off, but we'd also like to find out about any local newsletters or magazines that would be willing to print listings. Most of all, we'd like to see as many people as possible supporting their pub, so if you can persuade just one of those pub shy people to join you at the bar that week, to discover the warm welcome and convivial atmosphere at their community local, then Local Pubs Week will have achieved its aim.
If you are thinking of holding an event that you would like us to know about, particularly if it is aimed at getting new people into the pub, contact: Nigel by email at or call Margaret by telephone on 01226 714492
